Work Type: Full-Time, Office Hours (Minimal On-Call)

The Opportunity

We are representing a global leader in industrial manufacturing and water solutions that is currently seeking an expert controls engineer to join their North West Sydney operations. This is a critical site-based role where you will act as the primary technical authority for automation reliability, process control, and electrical safety.

This position is ideal for a hands-on Electrical Engineer who enjoys the complexity of high-stakes manufacturing environments. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability of sophisticated automation systems while leading site-wide electrical safety improvements.

Key Responsibilities

As the Lead Electrical Engineer for the site, your focus will be split between maintaining current systems and delivering strategic upgrades:

  • System Reliability: Troubleshoot and resolve complex PLC, HMI, and SCADA issues to minimize production downtime.

  • Safety Leadership: Act as the site Electrical Safety Professional (ESP), coordinating safety improvement processes and advising leadership on resourcing and compliance.

  • Projects & Improvements: Deliver A&PC capital projects from scope and functional specifications through to FAT, SAT, commissioning, and handover.

  • Control Logic & Features: Maintain and enhance control system architecture using Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms, including adding new features and optimising logic.

  • Governance: Manage site standards for naming conventions and HMI interfaces, ensuring all changes follow strict Management of Change (MOC) protocols.

  • Machine Safety: Design and validate machine safety circuits, including emergency stops, failsafe systems, and safety-rated PLC systems.

What You Will Bring

We are looking for a specialist who balances technical depth with a proactive, advisory mindset:

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or an equivalent technical qualification.

  • Industry Experience: Minimum of 5 years supporting automation and control systems within a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • Technical Proficiency: Practical capability with Allen Bradley (CompactLogix, FactoryTalk View) and Siemens, alongside knowledge of industrial networks like Ethernet/IP and DeviceNet.

  • Field Expertise: Deep understanding of instrumentation (pressure, level, flow, temperature) and industrial electrical interfaces such as MCCs and VSDs.

  • Design Skills: Ability to develop and maintain electrical designs, power distribution schematics, and control architecture.

Why This Role?

This is a rare opportunity to step into a "Lead" capacity for a site that values technical excellence and safety above all else.

  • Work-Life Balance: This is a professional, salary-based role focused on office hours. While an on-call component exists, it is rare and managed with time-in-lieu arrangements rather than a high-pressure overtime culture.

  • Immediate Impact: You will have immediate ownership of the site's electrical landscape and the autonomy to drive real improvements.
