Senior Algorithm Engineer: Bridging Physics and Embedded Systems
The Opportunity

Talent Aligned is proud to partner with a global heavyweight in optical communication technology. While many firms focus solely on software, our client is a true pioneer that designs, builds, and exports billions of dollars worth of cutting edge hardware right here in Sydney. They are the world leaders in Wavelength Selective Switches (WSS) and are currently driving the next generation of optical networking innovation.

We are seeking a Senior Algorithm Software Engineer to join their Embedded Engineering team. This is a rare opportunity to work at a site where R&D and world class manufacturing exist under one roof, providing a direct feedback loop between your algorithms and physical reality.

The Role

This is not a traditional software role. You will be the architect of the mathematical "brain" behind complex photonic platforms. Your work will bridge the gap between optical physics, advanced mathematical modelling, and production ready embedded software.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Algorithm Architecture: Designing and developing algorithms for the control, calibration, and optimization of next generation optical systems.

  • Physical Modelling: Translating complex optical physics into robust mathematical models and validating them through simulation.

  • Rapid Prototyping: Utilising Python or MATLAB to prove concepts before moving them into a real time embedded environment.

  • Collaborative Implementation: Working closely with firmware teams to translate your models into efficient, high performance C/C++ code.

  • System Debugging: Solving multifaceted issues across optical, electrical, and software domains using advanced lab and test equipment.

Your Expertise

You are a unique hybrid: a software specialist with a deep appreciation for the physical world, or a physicist who has mastered the art of embedded systems. You should possess:

  • Academic Foundation: A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics (ideally with an Optics focus).

  • Mathematical Rigor: Strong capability in linear algebra, differential equations, and numerical optimization.

  • Technical Stack: Proficiency in C/C++, Python, or MATLAB, alongside an understanding of real time software constraints.

  • Analytical Mindset: A practical, hands on approach to experimentation and the ability to refine algorithms based on experimental data.

  • Interdisciplinary Skills: The comfort to collaborate across optics, electronics, and software teams to align system architecture.

The Rewards

Our client offers a professional, down to earth environment where innovation is celebrated. You will join a team that values technical excellence and provides a clear path for professional growth.

  • Financial Benefits: Competitive salary plus performance bonuses and an Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP).

  • Flexibility and Support: Relocation assistance where required, novated leasing, and a comprehensive health and wellbeing program.

  • Vibrant Culture: A social and active workplace with regular team activities and a commitment to continuous learning.

How to Align Your Future

If you are ready to apply your mathematical expertise to global scale technology, we would love to hear from you.
