Engineering Lead/Manager - Node/React

We’re partnering with a fast-growing technology business that builds and operates a large-scale IoT device and cloud platform, and they’re entering a major modernisation phase.

They’re looking for a hands-on Senior Engineering Lead to take ownership of the platform and lead the next stage of technical evolution.

The very first priority?
Rewriting and modernising legacy IoT services into Node.js.

This is not a pure management role. You’ll be in the code daily, setting standards, guiding engineers, and transforming a legacy stack into a clean, scalable, cloud-native platform.

If you enjoy untangling complex systems, improving architecture, and leading from the front, this will suit you well.

The Role

You’ll combine technical leadership with hands-on engineering to modernise and scale an established IoT platform.

Key responsibilities include:

• Refactor and migrate legacy IoT/backend services into Node.js

• Reduce technical debt and establish modern engineering standards

• Own and improve AWS cloud architecture

• Ensure DevOps best practices are followed

• Mentor and guide a SW engineering team

• Conduct architecture and code reviews

• Troubleshoot complex issues across devices, APIs and cloud services

• Capture domain knowledge and document systems for future scalability

About You

You’re a senior engineer first and leader second. You’re comfortable owning platforms end-to-end and making pragmatic architectural decisions.

You’ll likely have:

• 7+ years software engineering experience

• Experience leading o& mentoring engineers

• Strong Node.js (JavaScript/TypeScript) expertise

• React or modern front end JS experience

• Solid AWS knowledge (cloud architecture, security, reliability)

• DevOps skills: CI/CD, containers, Infrastructure as Code, observability

• Experience working with IoT, device communication or real-time systems isn't essential.
