R&D Tax Consultant – Engineering & Technical Projects

Location: Open to candidates Australia-wide (Perth preferred, Sydney second preference)

Sponsorship available for the right candidate

A growing R&D Tax Incentive consultancy is looking for an experienced and technically minded R&D Advisor/consultant to join their team. The business works with over 100 clients currently across engineering, fabrication, mining services, technology, and advanced manufacturing. They help to support innovative companies as they develop new products, systems, and processes.

The firm is known for its accuracy, speed, and modern approach to R&D claims, supported by an AI-enabled workflow and a purpose-built ERP system that streamlines the entire submission process.

They are now hiring an additional R&D Advisor to manage a portfolio of clients and help drive continued growth.

About the Role

You will manage your own portfolio of R&D clients (typically 10–50 depending on experience) and be responsible for delivering end-to-end R&D Tax Incentive work. This includes running technical workshops, gathering information, interpreting eligibility, preparing documentation, and ensuring all claims are compliant and submitted on time.

The position suits someone who is organised, proactive, and technically curious, ideally with an engineering mindset and previous exposure to R&D Tax Incentives, either in a consultancy or through internal claim preparation.

A strong project management style and confidence in discussing legislation are key.

If you can bring in new clients, that’s a bonus (and the fee structure will reward it), but it is not essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run R&D workshops and gather technical project information

  • Interpret eligibility and guide clients on what qualifies

  • Prepare reports, workpapers, and supporting documentation

  • Manage claim deadlines and maintain accurate task tracking

  • Liaise with clients online and in-person

  • Chase information proactively to keep claims moving

  • Ensure all work complies with R&D Tax legislation and internal QA

  • Optional: attend BD meetings and help convert warm referrals

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience with the R&D Tax Incentive program (consultancy or in-house)

  • Strong project management and organisational skills

  • Technically minded with an understanding of how products and systems are designed or built

  • Ability to interpret and work with legislation

  • High accountability, strong follow-through, and excellent documentation habits

Nice to Have

  • Business development or client-winning experience

  • Exposure to tech-enabled or AI-driven workflows

Remuneration

Salary and commission structures vary depending on whether your strengths are delivery-focused or BD-focused. With generous bonus/commission schemes available.

The business is flexible and will tailor the package to your capability.
